RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL — Brazil's Federal Police and Ibama destroyed 10 dredges used in illegal gold mining on the Madeira River in Porto Velho, Rondônia state, on Wednesday (26). In addition to the dredges, agents destroyed engines, fuel and other equipment used in mineral extraction.

Videos released by the Federal Police show teams traveling along the river and conducting aerial surveillance with a helicopter during the operation.

The Federal Police said the operation aimed to dismantle the logistics structure used by the criminals. According to the agency, enforcement efforts will continue to identify those responsible for the illegal activities, as well as potential financiers and others involved in the mineral extraction chain.
