TOCANTINS, BRAZIL – A pampas deer fawn was rescued from a wildfire in the rural area of Palmas, the capital of Tocantins state.

The animal is receiving treatment at the Tocantins Wildlife Center (Cefau). According to the firefighter responsible for the rescue, the fawn was given water after being removed from the area affected by the flames to help alleviate the effects of the heat.

The large wildfire occurred on Aug. 25 in an area known as São João. The team went to the site and found an intense fire fueled by strong winds and a large amount of dry vegetation.

After rescuing and hydrating the animal, the firefighters placed it safely inside their vehicle while the team continued fighting the flames.

After the operation, the firefighters contacted the Palmas Environmental Metropolitan Guard, which was responsible for taking the fawn to receive specialized care. The animal remains under treatment until it is fit to return to its natural habitat.
