AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — A wildfire is burning along a stretch of the BR-319 highway, between the municipalities of Careiro da Várzea and Careiro, in the interior of Amazonas state. The Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM) said it continues to battle the flames, which began on Saturday (19).

According to CBMAM, there is no forecast for when the operation will end, with firefighting efforts taking place between kilometers 20 and 26. The department also said that no property has been affected and there are no reports of injuries.

About 10 Civil Defense personnel are also working at the site in support of the firefighters. The operation involves four vehicles and 23 firefighters, including a team sent from Manaus to reinforce the efforts.
