TOCANTINS, BRAZIL — A video posted Thursday (24) on the social media accounts of the Araguaína city government, in northern Tocantins state, shows a green curiquinha in its nest, in a buriti palm, alongside a newborn chick. The city government, which was carrying out paving work at the site, suspended the work at the roundabout where the nest was found earlier this month.

The footage released Thursday shows the hollow structure of the tree used by the pair of birds to incubate their eggs and raise their chicks. The bird appears to be watching the drone that was recording the scene.

The nest is located at the roundabout on Avenida Siqueira Campos II, in Vila Santiago, where paving work was temporarily suspended after the nest was found during a technical inspection of the median.

The buriti palm was already dead and was scheduled to be removed by the city's infrastructure team. The family belongs to the green curiquinha species.

According to the city government, work on the roundabout's median will resume only after the chicks complete their growth cycle and safely leave the site. The area is part of the complex where Nascentes do Neblina Park, a conservation unit designed to protect the region's environmental resources, will be established.
