AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - The “Charter of the Alliance of the Peoples Who Guard the Amazon,” a document compiling demands and proposals from Indigenous, riverside, and quilombola communities to address the climate crisis, was finalized on Monday (10) during the “Banzeiro da Esperança” expedition.

The boat, carrying Amazonian leaders, traveled from Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, to Belém, in Pará. The document is set to be delivered to COP30 President-Designate André Corrêa do Lago on Tuesday (11).

Throughout the journey, the expedition brought together traditional leaders to discuss environmental impacts on their territories, threats to their ways of life, and sustainable management strategies. The dialogues highlighted the importance of ancestral and community knowledge in protecting the rainforest.

The UN Climate Conference began on Monday (10) and will run until the 21st in Belém.
