MANAUS, BRAZIL — A vessel traveling from Manaus to São Gabriel da Cachoeira, in Brazil’s Amazonas state, ran aground after striking rocks Tuesday night (17). The boat was carrying 32 passengers, 16 crew members, as well as seven vehicles and cargo.
No injuries were reported. However, passengers recorded videos showing moments of panic, even as the vessel was without power.
After the impact, the boat was taken to a nearby beach. The crew attempted to remove part of the cargo, but the vessel partially sank.
Passengers were rescued and arrived in São Gabriel da Cachoeira on Wednesday morning (18).
