MANAUS, BRAZIL — An exhausted female dog struggling to stay balanced on a tree trunk drifting in the middle of the Amazon River was rescued by crew members aboard a boat traveling to the 59th Parintins Folk Festival in Brazil's Amazonas state.
A video capturing the rescue quickly went viral on social media, showing the frightened animal moments before she was saved. As the boat approached, the dog became visibly agitated, attempted to walk along the floating trunk and lost her balance several times.
A man on board eventually managed to pull the dog to safety. According to the person who recorded the video, the boat turned around after the crew noticed the animal stranded on the drifting trunk. The captain then carefully maneuvered the vessel close enough to carry out the rescue.
The dog was safely brought aboard, where passengers cared for her and offered comfort after the ordeal. She was also given a new name: Yara.
