Amazonas declared a state of emergency in 20 municipalities, located in the Juruá, Purus and upper Solimões rivers, due to the drought affecting the rivers in the state.
The decree lasts 180 days, starting from publication in the Official Gazette, on Friday (5).
According to Civil Defense, river levels in all Amazonas river channels are below expectations for the period, compared to previous years.
The level of the Rio Negro, this Friday, for example, reached the mark of 26.70 meters.
In previous years, the elevations on that same day were 27.89 meters (2023); 29.59 meters (2022) and 29.87 meters (2021).
In Tabatinga, one of the municipalities included in the decree, the level reached 6.32cm, this Friday morning (5).
The data comes from the National Water Agency, which has a monitoring station in the city's port.
The government also declared an environmental emergency in the state due to the fires recorded in the south of Amazonas, Manaus and the metropolitan region.
During the period of 180 days, the practice of fire will be prohibited, with or without the use of controlled burning techniques.
