RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL - An anaconda was spotted crossing a road this week in the district of Izidolândia, located in Alta Floresta D’Oeste, state of Rondônia
The sighting surprised local residents who were out walking in the area and were struck by the snake’s impressive size.
The resident who captured the footage said such encounters are common in the region. The road the snake was crossing is built on a landfill that cuts through a flooded area—part of the anaconda’s natural habitat.
Anacondas are commonly found in the Amazon region, especially during the rainy season.
According to biologist Flávio Terassini, the snake in the video is a female, as they tend to be larger and more robust than males.
Based on the footage, Terassini estimates the anaconda weighs around 60 kilograms and measures approximately five meters in length.
