Chaos took over the city of Humaitá, in the interior of Amazonas, after an operation by the Federal Police that destroyed dredges used by miners in illegal activities in the region.
On the afternoon of this Wednesday (21), military police were called to control the retaliation of the miners, who used firecrackers to attack the agents.
According to the Federal Police, there were no injuries and there is still no information about arrests.
The first confrontation occurred around 2:30 pm, when federal police were attacked by miners while trying to dock their boats at a port in the city.
The miners then tried to invade the Humaitá City Hall building, which led to the beginning of the confrontation with the Military Police.
The miners threw firecrackers at the police in the city's central square.
To protect themselves, the agents used shields and blocked nearby roads.
In the images, residents try to flee the conflict, some film the police action, and shopkeepers from nearby bars and cafes remove tables and chairs to avoid damage.
The Amazonas State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP-AM) reported that it is monitoring the situation in the municipality of Humaitá.
The PF agents, with the support of Ibama and Funai, are conducting Operation Prensa, with the objective of combating illegal mining in southern Amazonas.
The actions that began on Tuesday (20) are expected to continue for at least another 10 days.
At the end of the work on Wednesday, around 2:30 p.m., the miners threw bombs and fireworks in an attempt to destroy the police boats, but were unsuccessful.
