PORTO VELHO-RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL - The federal highway BR-425 has traffic restrictions due to flooding in the stretch between Nova Mamoré (RO) and Guajará-Mirim (RO). The Federal Highway Police (Polícia Rodoviária Federal - PRF) prohibited the circulation of heavy vehicles this Thursday (10) due to the risk of compromising the structure.
According to the PRF, there is a possibility of isolating the municipalities in the region.
The highway had sections flooded due to the rising of the rivers and streams in the region.
The waters that flood part of the highway force drivers to take risks by passing through the flooded areas.
According to the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura e Transportes - DNIT), palliative work must be initiated to ensure that the highway remains in minimum conditions for circulation.
According to DNIT, the water level affecting BR-425 remains critical and effective improvements will only be possible after the waters have completely receded. As an emergency measure to ensure minimum vehicle circulation, petroleum-based materials will be applied to the flooded areas this week.
The Federal Highway Police has asked the public to avoid driving along the stretch, especially with trucks or other heavy vehicles.
