The severe drought that has hit the state of Amaazonas, Brazil, has changed the scenery in the area, bringing a lot of mud and causing banks to appear in the middle of the lake. In order to access other areas, neighbouring communities use small boats that are steered by those who know the lake well during the ebb and flow. Floating houses and even small boats are stranded where a lake used to be in the neighbourhood of Puraquequara, in the eastern part of Manaus.
