Two men have been arrested on suspicion of committing the crimes of rape and killing the victims. Among them is 36-year-old Peruvian Vitor Raul Mendoza, the brother-in-law of 28-year-old Cláudia Castro Peres, who was brutally murdered along with her four-year-old son. Cláudia's eldest daughter, a 7-year-old girl, survived being raped by her uncle. The suspects in the murders have had a custody hearing and are awaiting a decision from the Amazonas courts. According to the police, the case of the abuse of the 7-year-old girl has already been solved. Investigations are now continuing into who killed Cláudia and her son. Genetic material has been sent to the Forensic Medical Institute in Manaus to provide material evidence of the suspects' involvement. The indigenous Tikuna family lived in the Colombian city of Leticia, on the border with Tabatinga on the Brazilian side. The mother and her two children were on holiday at the home of relatives in the village of Porto Cordeirinho, located in the region of the city of Benjamim Constant, in the interior of Amazonas.
