The herbarium at Inpa, the National Institute for Amazonian Research, holds a veritable treasure trove. There are 300,000 samples of around 25,000 plant species, mainly from the Amazon biome. The collection is almost 70 years old and has already been computerised. Curiosities can be found in the herbarium, such as a 200-year-old sample of a species from the Brazil nut family collected in Rio de Janeiro in 1840.
