Several dredges, machines and camps were destroyed by federal agents in the largest operation against illegal mining in the Tapajós Environmental Preservation Area, in the state of Pará-Brazil. Nine helicopters were needed to cover the entire region that was being degraded by the miners. Even a village with an airstrip that supported the miners was destroyed. Ibama, ICMBio, the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police and the National Force took part in the action.
