The Federal Police and Ibama carried out last Wednesday, (9) August, an operation to combat environmental crimes in the Rio Mequéns Indigenous Land in Alto Alegre dos Parecis, in the state of Rondônia-Brazil. Six mobile sawmills and five camps were found in the region. The action included 40 police officers and Ibama officials. The investigations carried out with the support of satellite images, indicate that illegal logging is constant in the region. In addition to the camps and sawmills, six trucks, two tractors and seven motorbikes were rendered unusable. Investigations continue to be carried out to identify the criminals and recipients of the timber removed from the indigenous land.
