On Saturday morning (4), horse owners who were at the stud farm of a private university in Manaus were surprised by the news of the death of three horses.
Other animals that were at the location were also sick and showed symptoms such as lack of appetite, which led to rapid weight loss.
The living animals were subjected to treatment with serum.
Since then, six other animals that were at the stud farm have died until Tuesday morning (7).
A horse that was at a farm in another part of the city also died on Monday (6), after ingesting hay produced at Haras da Nilton Lins, according to the animal's owner.
According to preliminary information, the possible cause is the ingestion of a toxin, with symptoms similar to botulism, which led the animals to a critical condition.
The suspicion is that the animals, both at the stud farm and at the farm, ingested contaminated food.
The Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM) reported that the case of the deaths at the stud farm will be investigated by the Specialized Police Station for Crimes Against the Environment and Urbanism (Dema).
As for the animal that died at the farm, veterinarians and technicians began an epidemiological investigation into the death of the horse "Lampião" on Monday morning.
