BELÉM, BRAZIL – An adult crab-eating fox was filmed crossing Avenida Liberdade in Belém on Tuesday night (July 14). The footage was recorded by a woman who was traveling along the avenue with her companion.

At first, the animal was mistaken for a fox. The video shows it walking across the roadway as the driver slows the vehicle.

According to the woman who recorded the footage, the driver reduced speed to avoid hitting the animal and to warn other motorists traveling along the avenue.

The video also shows the animal startled by the vehicle's headlights as it approached. After walking several meters along the road, the crab-eating fox managed to return to a nearby forested area.

The woman urged motorists to remain especially alert when driving through the area, particularly at night. She said dogs, cats and even pedestrians have previously been seen along the shoulder of the avenue.
