AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - The “Banzeiro da Esperança” expedition is navigating through the rivers of the Amazon with community leaders, representatives of social movements, civil society organizations, and public institutions. The initiative seeks to develop climate action plans based on the lived realities of Amazonian communities.

The vessel departed from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state, on Wednesday night (Nov. 4), heading toward Belém, in Pará. Along the route, the boat serves as a space for dialogue and collective building, hosting workshops and discussions on the climate crisis.

The proposals discussed during the journey will be compiled into a final letter to be presented at COP30, which takes place from November 10 to 21 in Belém.

The letter will bring together the perspectives of Indigenous, riverside, and quilombola communities — voices from territories far from urban centers, where the impacts of climate change are felt most profoundly.
