The beach of the Sobrado community is now home to families who left their homes because of the difficulty of accessing them due to the severe drought in Novo Airão, inland Amazonas. The river dwellers have been living in boats there for four months. The region is bathed by the Negro River, which is too low to navigate to the communities affected by the drought. The five families, who depend on fishing, now have difficulty accessing drinking water and food. The state and municipality will distribute food baskets to the families affected by the drought.
