In Labrea, a city in the south of Amazonas, firefighters are having a hard time putting out fires in the forest. The smoke is taking over the region and is already harming the health of the population of the municipality. To make matters worse, the forest in southern Amazonas is being devastated by fires. Four cities in the region are under deforestation alerts in the biome in 2023, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research, Inpe.
