AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - The Codajás Operation has adopted preventive measures to ensure fuel supplies, particularly Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), during the period of falling river levels in Brazil’s North. The operation is coordinated by Transpetro and Petrobras, with support from the Brazilian Navy.
The plan was activated in the second half of September after monitoring indicated a trend of declining river levels and a possible increase in navigation restrictions in the coming weeks. Measures include the early mobilization of resources, strategic positioning of vessels and monitoring of critical stretches.
For 2026, two gas carriers will be dedicated exclusively to the operation, while other vessels will be used to transport LPG and oil. The tanker Epic Baluan will be stationed in Coari to expand storage capacity in the region.
Created in 1995, the Codajás Operation marks its 31st year in 2026. In addition to helping ensure LPG supplies, the operation supports the continued transportation of oil and natural gas production from the Urucu Hub, whose gas production accounts for more than 50% of electricity generation in Amazonas state.
During the historic drought of 2024, Transpetro carried out 21 dedicated operations and transported more than 16,000 metric tons of LPG to Brazil’s North. In 2025, more than 60,000 metric tons of LPG and 129,000 cubic meters of oil were transported in September and October.
