The level of the river that bathes the capital of Roraima continues to fall sharply as a result of this year's drought. There is concern that if the rate of fall continues, the city of Boa Vista could face a water supply crisis. According to the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet), the state is expected to have below-average rainfall until December. The source of drinking water that supplies the homes of the city's residents, the Branco River was one of the four main rivers in the Amazon Basin with the lowest level ever recorded in the history of measurements, according to a report by the Brazilian Geological System (SGB) and the ANA. The level reached 1.05 metres - the ideal for the period would be 2.10 - meaning it is one metre drier. In 2016, when the state faced one of the worst droughts in history, the volume of water was -59 centimetres.
