RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL - A jaguar was spotted swimming in the Guaporé River near Vila Neide, in the municipality of Cabixi (RO), located in the southernmost region of Rondônia state.
The sighting occurred last week and surprised a group of tourists on a boat tour in the area.
Fisherman Dinorvan Salmoria recorded the moment the jaguar emerged from the Bolivian side of the Guaporé River and calmly swam across to the Brazilian shore.
According to him, the animal was observed up close during its crossing and did not display any aggressive behavior at any time.
Upon reaching the opposite bank, the jaguar entered the forest and disappeared among the trees.
The tour guide accompanying the group explained that although rare, such sightings are more frequent during this time of year, attracting visitors interested in observing the region’s wildlife.
The team of tour guides responsible noted that the surroundings of the Guaporé River are among the areas with the highest biodiversity in Rondônia, and encounters like this demonstrate that it is possible to coexist with nature in a safe and respectful manner.
