MANAUS, BRAZIL – The appearance of Amazon wildlife in homes, streets and major avenues during heavy rainfall is a common occurrence in municipalities across the state of Amazonas. During periods of intense rain that cause flooding, animals often seek shelter and safety in urban areas.
One such incident occurred on Monday (9) along a busy avenue in eastern Manaus. A caiman was spotted calmly walking along a sidewalk amid heavy rainfall in the city.
Alarmed residents called the Fire Department to remove the animal. Authorities believe the caiman may have come from a nearby stream that runs through the area.
The animal was captured and taken to a wildlife management facility. It was later released back into a safer natural environment.
