MANAUS, BRAZIL - Two waterspouts were recorded during a storm in a rural area of the municipality of Silves, in Amazonas state, Brazil. The vortices, formed by rotating columns of air, are similar to tornadoes but develop over water — including seas, lakes and rivers — from storm clouds.
Residents recorded the phenomenon on Friday morning (17) on an island near the town, moving toward the Amazon River. Images show the two columns standing apart on the horizon.
Waterspouts are common in hot and humid regions such as the Amazon.
