MANAUS, BRAZIL - A tanker truck carrying 50,000 liters of fuel caught fire at kilometer 150 of the BR-174 highway in Brazil’s Amazonas state. According to the Amazonas State Fire Department (CBMAM), no one was injured.

The flames destroyed the vehicle and spread to an area of low vegetation measuring about 50 square meters, in addition to damaging local power lines.

The BR-174 highway was closed in both directions for approximately four hours.

Firefighters said the main concern during the incident was the risk of a possible explosion involving the truck. Crews used about 4,500 liters of water and 100 liters of foam concentrate to bring the fire under control.

The fire department also contacted the local power utility due to the fire affecting electrical wiring. Brazil’s Federal Highway Police (PRF) assisted in securing the area and managing traffic.
