MACAPÁ, BRAZIL - Amazonbai, an açaí extractivist producers’ cooperative from the Brazilian state of Amapá, signed a contract to supply 15,000 tons of the fruit to China by 2031. The agreement was reached during Sial China, Asia’s largest food trade fair, held in Shanghai, and was announced Friday (22) by the Brazilian government.
Amazonbai is part of the Açaí Route, an initiative under the National Integration Routes strategy aimed at strengthening local production systems and promoting sustainable regional development. However, sales have not yet been finalized because the cooperative is still undergoing the process to obtain GACC (General Administration of Customs of China) certification, which is mandatory for exports to the Chinese market.
The cooperative’s president, Amiraldo Picanço, said he is confident about distributing the product in what he described as a promising market. According to the Brazilian government, the initiative helps position the country at the center of global value chains by connecting territories, family farming, cooperativism and regional development to international markets.
The 2026 edition of the fair brought together 82 Brazilian exporting companies, a record number compared to the 54 participants in the previous edition. The event took place from May 18 to 20.
