AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — A jaguar attacked two dogs and killed one of them at a rural property in Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, in Brazil’s Amazonas state. The attack occurred on Tibaha Road, about 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the town center, and was recorded by security cameras at the property.

The homeowner, identified only as Lira, said on social media that he had gone fishing and, upon returning, noticed that one of his dogs was missing. He then checked the security footage and discovered that the animal had been attacked by a jaguar.

"I went to check the cameras here at my house and saw a jaguar at the front door. It took my dog in a brutal way. It killed my dog in front of my house and took it away."

The footage shows the jaguar approaching the property and attacking one of the dogs. The animal tries to fight back but is quickly overpowered by the jaguar.

The second dog charges at the jaguar in an attempt to defend its companion, which the jaguar releases. The feline then attacks the second dog and drags it into a vegetated area.

The homeowner searched the surrounding dense forest and found only the animal’s remains. The remains of a caiman were also found in the same area.

The first dog survived the attack but suffered serious injuries to its neck. The incident left the homeowner concerned about his family’s safety, and he fears the jaguar may return to the property.

"It's as if she had taken a piece of me," the owner said.
