PARÁ, BRAZIL – Cameras recorded, for the first time, the presence of a jaguarundi at the Grão-Pará Ecopark, located in the municipality of Oriximiná, in the western part of the state, in a region known as Calha Norte.

The Ecopark area is one of the best-preserved regions of the Amazon and also encompasses three other municipalities: Óbidos, Alenquer and Monte Alegre.

The jaguarundi is a secretive feline with a low population density, making the footage significant for researchers.

The images were obtained through a project that monitors the region’s fauna and flora. The footage expands knowledge of the species’ distribution and underscores the importance of protected areas for biodiversity conservation.
