A pilot was arrested and a helicopter was destroyed in an action by the Armed Forces, together with Ibama and the Federal Police, in the Yanomami Indigenous Land in Roraima. The action is part of Operation Catrimani II and also destroyed five camps used by illegal prospectors. The operation was announced by the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday (9). The actions took place in the Homoxi, Xitei Pupunha and Rangel regions, the latter being one of the most exploited by the invaders within the territory. The military also seized motors, generators, water pumps, freezers and satellite communication and internet connection equipment. This was Defence's first action in Operation Catrimani II, which began in April to combat illegal mining in the indigenous territory and dismantle the infrastructure that supports the illegal activity. According to Defence, around 800 military personnel from the Armed Forces have been mobilised, as well as river, land and air resources, to combat illegal mining in TIY, Amazonas and Roraima. The Armed Forces are working in conjunction with the Government House, as well as security agencies and bodies, to strengthen the protection of the indigenous people.
