MANAUS-AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - About two tons of drugs were seized on a speedboat on Sunday night (23) by agents of the Amazonas Military Police (PMAM), in a joint operation with the Federal Police (PF), near Iranduba, in the interior of Amazonas.
According to information provided by the Military Police, the suspicious vessel was identified through the intelligence survey of the security agency, which detected the boat coming from the region of the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Peru, heading towards Manaus.
At around 11 pm, the police spotted and intercepted the vessel.
When they approached, the occupants of the boat responded by shooting at the police, who returned fire.
The suspects abandoned the boat, jumped into the river and fled without being identified.
The PM did not confirm the number of suspects involved in the operation.
When inspecting the boat, agents found large quantities of marijuana and cocaine, four long weapons, including two rifles, three engines and a quantity of Colombian money. For the police, the main suspicion is that the criminals are foreigners.
All the material was seized and taken to the Headquarters of the Special Operations Company (COE), in Manaus.
Investigations should continue to identify and locate the suspects.
