The Amazon Summit began today (8) in Belém. Meeting of leaders of the Amazon countries and other guests. Heads of states debate solutions to preserve the forest, against deforestation and fires. And thus avoid an environmental catastrophe. Stimulating the local economy, valuing indigenous peoples and local and traditional communities and their ancestral knowledge, are also part of the agenda. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said in the morning, during the opening of the meeting that "it has never been so urgent to resume and expand" the cooperation between the countries that have the forest in their territory.
