The 57th edition of the Parintins Folk Festival was launched yesterday (15) by the state government. The ceremony took place at the Amazonas Theatre, in the centre of Manaus, and featured a performance by the bumbás Garantido and Caprichoso. This year's festival takes place on 28, 29 and 30 June. The folklore festival is a traditional part of the Amazonian cultural calendar. In the Bumbódromo arena, the two groups defend a theme, presenting giant allegories and dances to the sound of toadas, a typical Amazonian musical rhythm. Caprichoso, the blue and white bulls, will use the theme "Cultura, o Triunfo do Povo" (Culture, the Triumph of the People) in their quest for a third title. Garantido, the red and white bull, will focus on "Segredos do Coração" (Secrets of the Heart) to try to win the championship. During the ceremony at the Amazonas Theatre, the artist who won the bid to paint the event's theme at the Bumbódromo in Parintins was announced.
