A boat that left Manaus bound for the city of Juruá suffered damage this Wednesday (18), after colliding with a rock in the river that bears the city's name.
Although the incident raised concerns among passengers and crew, no one was injured.
The damage was limited to food products and merchandise on board.
According to witnesses, the hull of the vessel was punctured, causing the captain to steer the boat toward a nearby island.
Witnesses also reported that some passengers jumped into the river to reach the island and wait for help.
Speedboats from the city of Juruá were mobilized to provide assistance.
The severe drought in the rivers of the state of Amazonas makes navigation difficult throughout the region.
The Navy was called to investigate the incident and ensure navigation safety in the region.
