The Civil Defense issued a warning on Sunday (24) about air quality in several cities in Amazonas.
Smoke from forest fires in unprotected areas is the main reason.
The warning advises the population about possible respiratory discomfort, especially for people sensitive to smoke.
According to the agency, air quality sensors indicated high concentrations of particulate matter.
The level of air quality in Manaus and in nine cities in the interior of the state is considered worrying.
Particulate matter (PM2.5) above 25 µg/m³" means that there is a concentration of fine particles in the air, smaller than 2.5 micrometers, above 25 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This indicates that the air quality is moderate, and may affect sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems.
