Aerial images of the Amazon rainforest in the southern region of Amazonas, being consumed by arson and illegal deforestation. Among the ten cities under alerts in the biome in 2023, four are in this region of the state, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). The region is known for the strong presence of illegal land grabbers and loggers. The district of Santo Antônio do Matupi, in Manicoré, and areas between Humaitá and Tapauá, cities in the interior of Amazonas, are the most affected by the fire and the destruction of the forest.
