A type of grass popularly known as "Canarana", formed during the severe drought of the Negro River in 2023, broke off as the water level rose and ended up on the Manaus waterfront. The phenomenon is more common inland, where there are many tributaries of the Amazon basin. The vegetation reached as far as Ponta Negra beach, in the capital of Amazonas. According to experts, the undergrowth will be decomposed by nature and will disappear naturally. Last year, the rivers reached historic levels in all the cities of Amazonas.
