The National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (DNIT) in Amazonas reinstated the ban on the traffic of heavy vehicles weighing over 45 tons on BR-319, the highway that connects the state to the rest of the country.
The measure, which should be in effect until June of this year, revokes a previous rule that allowed these vehicles to circulate on the highway.
In a statement, DNIT explained that the decision was made due to the end of the dry season in the state and the return of navigation on the rivers.
The agency emphasized that the measure aims to preserve the unpaved section of BR-319, which is exposed to rain, in addition to ensuring the safety of the wooden bridges located along the highway.
