AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – A mare was rescued Saturday (5) after falling into a pit approximately four meters deep at Residencial Parintins, in the Macurani community of Parintins. The rescue was carried out by teams from the 19th Military Firefighting Battalion after residents called for assistance.
According to the homeowners, the animal entered the backyard and fell into the structure, which was still under construction.
According to the Fire Department, the clayey and unstable soil prevented the use of mechanical equipment to remove the mare.
To carry out the rescue, firefighters improvised a ramp using hand tools. They then poured about 3,000 liters of water into the pit to raise the water level and help the animal reach the exit via the ramp.
Despite the fall, the mare did not appear to have suffered serious injuries.
The animal's owner was not identified. After being removed from the pit, the mare was led to and released in a safe open area in the region.
