The city is known for the folklore festival that takes place every year in June. Garantido and Caprichoso are the bois-bumbás that hold the big party in a dispute that attracts many tourists from the state, the rest of Brazil and abroad. Tupinambarana Island, where the municipality is located, is also known for its gastronomy and Catholic religiosity. Cruise ship tourism is also frequent, as it boosts the local economy. Parintins has the second largest population in Amazonas, with more than 116,000 inhabitants, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - Ibge.
