Passengers who were aboard the small aircraft that crashed into the Tarauacá River were discharged from the Dr. Márcio Rogério Camargo Mixed Health Unit in João. The six passengers arrived at the medical facility around 10:45 a.m. with minor injuries.
The aircraft had departed from Jordão bound for Tarauacá. After nearly 20 minutes of flight, the pilot noticed a malfunction and attempted to return to the runway, but ended up making an emergency landing on a beach area.
The flight was private. Images recorded by local residents show the aircraft partially submerged in a shallow section of the river.
Local witnesses used a small boat to remove the passengers from the aircraft. The rescue operation was carried out in stages, transporting two to three people at a time to the riverbank.
The pilot and four passengers were taken by boat to the city for medical treatment. Two other women remained at the site awaiting assistance.
