An operation by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) has revealed a scene of destruction in an area of the Yanomami indigenous reserve. The mining site, which had been deactivated, was once again operating illegally. The agents destroyed engines and equipment used to extract minerals. In January, the federal government began a series of operations on Yanomami land to expel 20,000 prospectors. According to FUNAI, there has been an 80 per cent reduction. But, according to Ibama, in the last four months their presence has begun to grow.
