Aiming at the production of more uniform and productive genotypes, Embrapa, in 2004, initiated REDEPALM - Pupunha for Palm Heart Improvement Network in different Brazilian regions. The objective of the network project is to make available cultivars, develop genotypes and post-improvement research of pupunha for palm heart. Currently there is a registered seminal cultivar, developed by Embrapa Florestas in Paraná, called BRS 411. Next year, five more seminal cultivars developed by the Redepalm project will be generated and launched in the states of Paraná, Acre, Amapá, Amazonas and Roraima. In addition, clones should be formed by tissue culture from these cultivars. Complementary post-improvement research should be conducted. The main results include registered cultivars, clones with high embryogenic capacity and a method for propagation by tillers, which will have an impact, in the medium term, on increasing the productivity of pupunha plantations for palm heart and, in the long term, on the establishment of highly productive and uniform clonal plantations. The information is from Embrapa.
