The state of Amazonas leads the Brazilian ranking with the highest rate of timber seizures last year. The data comes from a survey by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), which also pointed to a 12 per cent increase in Brazil. According to the PRF, the seizures occurred during inspections and in operations carried out in partnership with other federal agencies on the highways. In Amazonas in 2022, 912 m³ were seized, while last year there were 9,201.06 m³, according to the Federal Highway Police. Among the species most commonly found in the raids are woods such as maçaranduba, angelim-vermelho and itaúba, some of which have a high added value in the furniture manufacturing market.
