The canal where the Rio Negro used to flow is now completely dry with this year's severe drought. The Cacau Pirêra district is in the municipality of Iranduba, in the metropolitan region of Manaus. Boats are stranded there and are waiting for the flood to move on to other areas. Amazonas is suffering the consequences of the state's drought. Forty-two municipalities have already declared a state of emergency. Many communities are isolated with a lack of food, supplies and drinking water.
