The mountain in Peru is 5,579 metres high and forms part of the Andes mountain range. Nevado Mismi, which is very important for the region, used to have snow and ice all year round, but this has not been the case for some time. The mountain is currently suffering from the effects of climate change. Years ago, between the months of February and March, there was snow covering the entire length of the mountain, but what we see now is a landscape that looks like a desert with rocks in its path. Global warming is the main cause of climate change on the mountain, experts say. It is at the base of the Mismi that the world's largest river, the Amazon, is born. To protect the source, an environmental protection project is being discussed between representatives of the Peruvian government and Amazonas, the state that borders the neighbouring country. The idea is to draw up a plan to adapt to climate change so that the inhabitants can cope with the water shortages that are already occurring in the Mismi region. On the Peruvian side, representatives hope that by next year the area will be environmentally protected, with all the commitments established between the parties.
