MANAUS, BRAZIL — A truck loaded with goods and beverages lost control and sank in the Maués-Açu River on Thursday morning (Aug. 20) in Maués, in Brazil’s Amazonas state. The vehicle was on a ramp used by boats at the city’s port, known as Língua da Princesa.
Employees of the company responsible for the cargo said the truck was being unloaded onto a boat when the driver lost control. The truck rolled backward down the ramp and ended up completely submerged in the river.
The driver managed to escape from the vehicle and, according to company employees, was not injured. No injuries were reported.
Part of the cargo, including beverages and other goods, was scattered and floated on the river.
The company responsible for the truck is working to remove the vehicle from the bottom of the Maués-Açu River.
