MANAUS, BRAZIL — A boat exploded and caught fire while being refueled at a floating fuel station on Sunday morning (Aug. 2) in the municipality of Barcelos, in Brazil's Amazonas state. During the blaze, a man ran through the flames before jumping into the river to escape. A woman who was also aboard the vessel jumped into the water as well.

The incident was captured by a security camera. The footage shows the boat moored alongside the floating fuel station when a powerful explosion occurs. Moments later, flames rapidly spread across part of the floating structure.

The video shows a man emerging from the stern of the boat, running through the area engulfed in flames and diving into the river to save himself. A woman standing on the side of the vessel also jumps into the water.

Shortly afterward, a fuel station attendant rushes to the scene, releases the mooring lines to move the burning boat away from the fuel pumps, and uses a fire extinguisher to control the remaining flames on the platform. Meanwhile, the vessel drifts down the river while emitting thick smoke.

Despite the danger that the fire could have reached the fuel tanks and pumps, the flames on the floating station were quickly brought under control.

Authorities have not yet released official information on the condition of the people who were aboard the boat.
