AMAPÁ, BRAZIL — Seven illegal mining sites operating in the Amazon rainforest were dismantled during Operation Calha Norte, conducted between May 12 and 15 in the municipalities of Laranjal do Jari and Almeirim, located along the border between the states of Amapá and Pará in northern Brazil.
The operation was coordinated by Brazil’s Federal Police in cooperation with federal and state agents. Around 80 officers took part in the mission, which also deployed five aircraft to reach remote areas of the forest.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat environmental crimes and protect the Amazon rainforest and communities affected by the illegal exploitation of natural resources.
